In Illustrator CS5, there is a new tool named Shape Builder tool. It helps you to get rid a whole lot of unnecessary vector parts by holding down the Option/Alt key and hover over the parts that needs to be removed.
Veerle Pieters, a graphic and web designer living in Belgium, wrote a step by step Illustrator tutorial to create a shutter shape and will show you how easy implementing this new Shape Builder tool.
